Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed the Law on the National Police, the presidential press service reported on Tuesday.
According to the law, the head of police is appointed and dismissed from office by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the proposal of the Prime Minister according to the proposal of the Interior Minister. First Deputy and deputies of the head of police shall be appointed and dismissed from office by the Interior Minister on the proposal of the head of police.
The law stipulates that the territorial police can be formed, eliminated and reorganized by the Cabinet of the Ministers on the proposal of the Interior Minister on the basis of the proposal of the police.
According to the law, the police officers are prohibited from expressing personal attitude to the activities of political parties during the execution of official duties, as well as to use official authority for political purposes.
